1 [Alleluja.] In exitu Israël de Ægypto, domus Jacob de populo barbaro, 2 facta est Judæa sanctificatio ejus; Israël potestas ejus. 3 Mare vidit, et fugit; Jordanis conversus est retrorsum. 4 Montes exsultaverunt ut arietes, et colles sicut agni ovium. 5 Quid est tibi, mare, quod fugisti? et tu, Jordanis, quia conversus es retrorsum? 6 montes, exsultastis sicut arietes? et colles, sicut agni ovium? 7 A facie Domini mota est terra, a facie Dei Jacob: 8 qui convertit petram in stagna aquarum, et rupem in fontes aquarum.

Quand Israël sortit d’Égypte, quand la maison de Jacob s’éloigna d’un peuple barbare, Juda devint son sanctuaire, Israël fut son domaine. La mer le vit et s’enfuit, le Jourdain retourna en arrière ; les montagnes sautèrent comme des béliers, les collines comme des agneaux. Qu’as-tu, mer, pour t’enfuir, Jourdain, pour retourner en arrière ? Qu’avez-vous, montagnes, pour sauter comme des béliers, et vous, collines, comme des agneaux ? Tremble devant le Seigneur, ô terre ! Devant le Dieu de Jacob, qui change le rocher en étang, le roc en source d’eaux.
