Se här är evighetens strand, 
här brusar strömmen förbi, 
och döden spelar i buskarna 
sin samma entoniga melodi.

Död, varför tystnade du? 
Vi äro komna långt ifrån 
och äro hungriga att höra, 
vi hava aldrig haft en amma 
som kunnat sjunga såsom du.

Kransen som aldrig smyckat min panna 
lägger jag tyst till din fot. 
Du skall visa mig ett underbart land 
där palmerna höga stå, 
och där mellan pelarraderna 
längtans vågor gå.

la même mélodie monotone. 

Mort, pourquoi es-tu restée silencieuse? 
nous sommes venus de loin 
et nous étions avides de tes paroles, 
nous n'avons jamais eu de nourrice 
sachant chanter comme toi. 

La couronne qui n'a jamais orné mon front, 
je la dépose en silence à tes pieds. 
Tu vas me montrer un merveilleux pays 
où s'élèvent de hauts palmiers 
et où entre les colonnades 
passent les ondes du désir.
