Sången på berget

Solen gick ned över havets skum och stranden sov
och uppe på bergen stod någon och sjöng...
När orden föllo i vattnet voro de döda...
Och sången försvann bakom tallarna och skymningen förde den med sig.
När allt var tyst, tänkte jag blott
att där låg hjärteblod på den kvällskumma klippan,
jag anade dunkelt att sången var
om något som aldrig återvänder.

Chanson sur le rocher

Le soleil s'était couché sur l'écume de la mer et la plage dormait
et là-haut sur le rocher quelqu'un chantait ...
Quand les paroles tombèrent dans l'eau, elles étaient mortes ...
Et le chant disparut derrière les pins et le crépuscule les emporta.
Ce n'est que lorsque le silence se fit que je pensai
qu'il y avait là le sang d'un cœur sur la falaise, dans l'écume du soir,
J'eus le sombre pressentiment que la chanson
était quelque chose qui ne reviendrait jamais.
