Daß du mich liebst
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Daß du mich liebst, ganz leise sollst du's sagen,
Denn heilig ist das Wort und wundervoll!
In meines Herzens Tempel will ich's tragen,

Mir sei bewußt, was du mir bist und gibst,
Mir leuchte, weil ich meine Straße wandle,
Das wundervolle Wort, daß du mich liebst!

Confirmed wtih Gedichte von Ernst Zahn, Stuttgart & Leipzig: Deutsche Verlags-Anstalt, 1910, page 3.

That you love me
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
That you love me, very quietly are you to say it,
For the word is holy and full of wonder!
I shall carry it within the temple of my hart,
That it may shine as the light upon the altar!

Its radiance shall never glow for a stranger,
And that it burns -- no one shall know of it.
Only for me, until the end of my days,
May palely shine its peaceful gleam!

May only I, while I hope, suffer, act,
Be aware what you are to me and what you give to me,
For me may gleam, as I wander along my pathway,
That wonderful word, that you love me!
