Flickan satt vid bäckens strand,
Tvådde sina fötter der.
Sjöng en fogel ofvanför:
"Flicka, grumla bäcken ej,
Himlen syns ej mer i den!"
Flickan slog sitt öga opp,
Talade med tårad blick:
"Sörj ej öfver bäcken, du,
Bäcken klarnar snart igen.
När du såg mig stå en gång
Vid en ynglings sida här,
Du till honom tala bort:
Grumla icke flickans själ,
Aldrig skall den klarna se'n,
Aldrig spegla himlen mer."

Une fille assise au bord du ruisseau
s'y lavait les pieds.
Au-dessus d'elle un oiseau chanta :
« Jeune fille, ne trouble pas le ruisseau,
le ciel ne pourra plus s'y refléter ! »
La fille leva les yeux,
et dit, les larmes aux yeux :
« Ne te soucie pas du ruisseau,
le ruisseau redeviendra vite clair.
Quand un jour tu me vis
assise là à côté d'un garçon,
tu aurais bien dû lui dire :
« Ne trouble pas le cœur de cette fille,
plus jamais il ne sera clair,
plus jamais il ne reflétera le ciel. »
