fra Korset og dets Pligter,
naar Byrden falder dobbelt tung 
imorgen, hvis du svigter.

Det sortner for dit Öie, 
og Sorgen Synet stænger,
og tidt du sætter dig vel ned 
og orker ikke længer.

Dog maa du altid længer;
dig vinker Maalet, kjære, 
og hver har jo sit eget Kors 
i dette Liv at bære.

Tag Livets Kors og bær det,
og naar du öiner Maalet,
da kaster du det tunge Træ
med sidste Kraft paa Baalet.

Det store Baal, som evig höit

tu dois peiner au milieu des flammes.

À quoi sert de fuir
la croix et ses devoirs,
puisque le fardeau sera demain
deux fois plus lourd si tu renonces.

Tout s'obscurcit devant tes yeux
et tu ne vois plus le chagrin,
et souvent tu t'assois, abattu,
et tu ne peux plus continuer.

Mais tu dois toujours continuer ;
le but te fait signe, mon cher,
et chacun dans cette vie
doit porter sa propre croix.

Prends la croix de la vie et porte-la,
