Teurer, kehrst du nie zurück?
Lässt umsonst dein Mädchen bangen,
Raubst ihr das geträumte Glück.
Ach, es wich mir Ruh' und Frieden,
Seit von mir du bist geschieden!

Dumpf in ungemess'nem Raume,
Wog' an Wog' empor sich hebt,
Bis zum fernsten Himmelssaume
Auf sie zu den Wolken strebt.
Und ich höre sie mit Grausen
Wild an ferne Felsen brausen.

Doch vergebens hoff' ich Kunde,
Wo, Geliebter, jetzt du weilst,
Wann mir endlich naht die Stunde,
Wo du mir entgegen eilst.
Dunkler Gott, o hab' Erbarmen,
Gib mir Ruh' in seinen Armen!

Has marxat per sempre,
estimat, no tornaràs mai més?
Deixes la teva noia angoixar-se per no res,
la prives del seu somni de felicitat.
Ai, el repòs i la pau m’han deixat
des que et separares de mi.

Somortes en l’espai sense límits,
s’aixequen una a una les onades
fins al més llunyà vorell del cel,
maldant vers els núvols.
I jo les sento amb esglai
bramular salvatges en roques llunyanes.

Però en va espero notícies teves,
on, estimat, deus ser ara,
quan finalment vindrà l’hora
que t’apressaràs al meu encontre.
Déu tenebrós, tingues pietat,
dóna’m la pau en els seus braços.
