Das versunkene Kloster
Language: German (Deutsch)

Ein Kloster ist versunken
Tief in den wilden See,
Die Nonnen sind ertrunken
Zusamt dem Pater, weh!
Der Nixen muntre Scharen,
Sie schwimmen stracks herbei,
Nun einmal zu erfahren,
Was in den Mauern sei.
Das plätschert und das rauschet
In Kreuzgang und Dorment!
Am Lokutorium lauschet
Der schäkernde Konvent;
Man hört Gesang im Chore
Und lustig Orgelspiel;
Das Glöcklein ruft zur Hore,
Wann's ihnen just gefiel.
Bei heitrem Vollmondglanze
Lockt sie der grüne Strand
Zu einem Ringeltanze
In geistlichem Gewand;
Die weißen Schleier flattern,
Die schwarzen Stolen wehn,
Die Kerzenflämmchen knattern,
Wie sie im Sprung sich drehn.
Der Kobold dort im Schutte
Der hohlen Felsenwand,
Er nimmt des Paters Kutte,
Die er am Ufer fand;
Die Tänzerinnen schreckend,
Kommt er zur Mummerei,
Sie aber tauchen neckend
Hinab in die Abtei.

L'abbaye engloutie
Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
Une abbaye est engloutie
Au fond du lac sauvage.
Les nonnes sont noyées
De même que le père supérieur, hélas !
Une joyeuse bande de nixes
Vient aussitôt nager autour
Pour y apprendre
Ce qu'il y aurait derrière ses murs.
On barbote et on fait du bruit
Dans le cloître et le dortoir !
Dans le parloir prête l'oreille
Une assemblée badine ;
On entend dans le chœur des chants
Et le jeu joyeux des orgues ;
Les cloches appellent aux heures,
Juste quand ça leur chante.
Dans la riante clarté de la pleine lune,
Le rivage verdoyant les incite
À danser une ronde
En habits religieux ;
Les voiles blancs flottent
Les étoles noires s'agitent,
Les flammèches des cierges crépitent
Tandis qu'elles tournent en sautillant.
Là-bas le kobold dans l'éboulis
Au creux d'une paroi rocheuse
Enfile le froc du père abbé
Qu'il a trouvé sur la rive ;
Effrayant les danseuses,
Il se dirige vers la mascarade,
Mais elles, taquines, plongent
Au fond de l'abbaye.
