an Herz und Sinn, eh' Du dich mir gesellt,
und wie durchströmt mich jetzt so licht, so lind

have placed me, a faltering one, upon a sure path!

My eye, you! -- How very blind I was
in heart and spirit, before you joined your path with mine,
and how I am now flooded so brightly, so gently
transfigured, by the reflected splendour of this whole world!
