Noch weißt du nicht wes Kind du bist,
Wer dir die Windeln schenket,
Wer um dich wacht, und wer sie ist,
Die dich erwärmt und tränket.

Geneuß indes mit frommem Sinn,
Geneuß! Nach wenig Jahren
Wird sich in deiner Pflegerin
Die Mutter offenbaren.

So hegt und pflegt uns alle hier,
Auf gleich verborgne Weise,
Ein Geber, Dank sei ihm dafür!
Mit Gütern, Trank und Speise.

Zwar faßt ihn nicht mein dunkler Sinn,
Allein nach wenig Jahren,
Wird wenn ich fromm und gläubig bin,
Er mir sich offenbaren.

Aan een zuigeling

Nog weet je niet wiens kind je bent,
Wie je de windsels aanhecht,
Wie bij je waakt, wie je verwent,
Wie je verwarmt en aanlegt1.
 
Geniet nu maar, heb goede zin,
Geniet! Na enk’le jaren
Zal zich in haar die lijkt jouw min
Je moeder openbaren.
 
Zo zorgt voor ons, ons allen hoor,
Ook op verborgen wijze,
Een Gever, - breng hem dank daarvoor! –
Met goed’ren, drank en spijzen.
 
Wel vat hem niet mijn duist’re geest,
Maar toch, na enk’le jaren,
Zal, - ben ik vroom genoeg geweest -,
Hij mij zich openbaren.
