Räck mig de väna läpparnas kalk, fast drycken han ger mig
städse i ljuvaste fröjd blandade saknadens kval! 
Aldrig du närmat min mun, förrän, gripen av trånad, min ande
slet i de känsliga band stoftet på honom har lagt.
Liksom en fånge vid vinterns slut, när en smekande vårfläkt
spelar från blånad sky in i hans fängelsevalv,
trycker mot gallret sin kind och andas och njuter men känner
dubbelt i njutningens stund tyngden av bojan han bär;
så när din kyss, så frisk som västan på blommande ängar,
skön som en ros i sin knopp, kom till min fängslade själ,
spratt i bojan hon upp och trängde mot läpparnas stängsel,
ivrig att svinga sig bort, svinga i frihet och ljus
hän till den värld, där ditt innersta jag, du älskade, dväljes,
där, för att, död för mig själv, evigt få leva i dig.

Le baiser

Tends-moi le calice de tes gracieuses lèvres, bien que la boisson qu'il m'offre
mélange toujours à la joie la plus brillante le tourment de la perte !
Jamais tu n'approchas ma bouche, avant que, saisi de langueur, mon esprit 
ne souffre, prisonnier de tendres liens matériels.
Comme le prisonnier à la fin de l'hiver, quand le souffle caressant du printemps
joue depuis le bleu du ciel dans le caveau de sa prison,
appuie sa joue sur les barreaux, respire et se délecte mais
dans sa jouissance ressent doublement le poids de la chaîne qu'il porte ;
ainsi quand ton baiser, aussi frais que le vent d'ouest sur les prairies fleuries,
beau comme une rose en bouton, approcha mon âme emprisonnée,
elle tressaillit dans ses chaînes et écarta la prison de mes lèvres,
acharnée à prendre son envol, à s'échapper dans la liberté et la lumière,
vers le monde où, très chère, réside ta plus profonde intimité,
où, mort à moi-même, je pourrai vivre éternellement en toi.
