Dort nach Süden zieht der Regen, Winde brausen südenwärts, Nach des Donners fernen Schlägen, Dort nach Süden will mein Herz. Dort im fernen Ungarlande Freundlich schmuck ein Dörfchen steht, Rings umrauscht von Waldesrande, Mild von Segen rings umweht. An des Dörfchens stillem Saume Ist ein Hüttlein hingestellt, Das in seinem schmalen Raume Wahret meine Herzenswelt. Bäume, die dem Wald entsprungen, Sehnend nach dem Hüttlein sich, Halten Dach und Wand umschlungen Mit den Zweigen inniglich. Aus dem Fenster blickt nun schweigend Lilla nach dem Wald hinaus, Ihr Gesichtchen traurig neigend, Blickt sie nach dem Laubgebraus. Und sie siehts mit stillem Sinnen, Und sie sieht es bang gerührt, Wie die Wasser niederrinnen, Wie der Wind das Laub entführt. Lauter wogt der Bach und trüber, Lauter wird der Lüfte Streit, Hörbar rauscht die Zeit vorüber An des Mädchens Einsamkeit.

Les arbres qui ont jailli dans la forêt Se pressent vers la chaumière, Tenant enlacés toit et murs Dans leurs tendres rameaux. Silencieuse à la fenêtre Lilla regarde la forêt, Son petit visage tristement penché, Elle observe le tumulte des feuilles.
