Trachten will ich nicht auf Erden
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  DUT ENG HEB
Trachten will ich nicht auf Erden,
daß ich reich an Gütern werde
Was mich hier beglücken soll,
ist auf Gott gebautes Wohl.

Lust nach Geld kann bessre Freuden,
die uns Gott bestimmt, verleiden,
raubt der Tugend Lust und Kraft,
macht oft elend, lasterhaft.

Einst an meiner Lebensschranken
werd ich Gott zufrieden danken,
daß er mir bis an mein Grab
Nahrung nur und Decke gab.

Streven wil ik niet op aarde
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
Streven wil ik niet op aarde
Naar bezit van grote waarde.
Waar ‘k geluk in vinden moet
Is op God gegrondvest goed.

Zucht naar geld kan vreugd bederven
Die ons God graag liet verwerven,
Maakt ons slap in ’t deugdgevecht,
Maakt ons ziek en maakt ons slecht.

Eens als ik mijn einde nader,
Zal ik danken God, mijn vader,
Dat Hij mij tot aan mijn graf
Voedsel slechts en woning gaf.
