Im grünen Walde wandl' ich hier
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
  Im grünen Walde wandl' ich hier
Mit tiefbewegtem Sinn;
Der Odem Gottes über mir
Weht durch die Wipfel hin.

  Die Bäume stehn in langen Reih'n,
Verklärt von goldnem Licht,
Das, wie der Andacht milder Schein
Aus ihrem Innern bricht.

  Es braust der Blätter grünes Meer
Vielstimm'gen Orgelklang,
Zum Dom empor, als kündet' er
Der Schöpfung heil'gen Drang.

  Den Pulsschlag, der das All durchdringt,
Mein ganzes Herz versteht,
Und still durch meine Seele klingt,
Ein inniges Gebet.

In the green woods I walk here
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
  In the green woods I walk here
With a deeply moved spirit;
Above me the breath of God
Blows through the treetops.

  The trees stand in long rows,
Transfigured by golden light,
Which, like the mild glow of devotions,
Breaks forth from within them.

  The green ocean of leaves roars forth
The many-voiced sound of an organ,
Up toward the cathedral, as if it were heralding
Creation’s holy force.

  The pulse that throbs through the universe
Is understood by my entire heart,
And quietly through my soul there sounds
A fervent prayer.
