Du Rabe, sagte ich, du alter Unglücksrabe,
was tust du immerfort auf meinem Weg.
Wohin ich gehe, sitzt du
und sträubst die paar Federn. Lästig!
 
Ja, sagte er und ging mit gesenktem Kopf
vor mir auf und ab
wie ein Lehrer beim Vortrag, es ist richtig;
es ist mir selbst schon fast unbehaglich.

Toi, corbeau, ai-je dit, toi, vieux corbeau de malheur,
que fais-tu toujours sur mon chemin.
Où que j'aille,tu es posé
et tu hérisses tes quelques plumes. C'est ennuyeux !

Oui, dit-il, et avec la tête baissée il allait
devant moi de long en large
comme un professeur qui fait cours, c'est vrai,
pour moi-même c'est presque désagréable.
