[Dieses Tauris?]1 wo der Eumeniden
Wuth zu stillen, [Pythius]2 versprach?
Weh, die Schwestern mit den Schlangenhaaren
Folgen mir vom Land der Griechen nach!
Rauhes Eyland, kündest keinen Segen:
Nirgends sproßt der Ceres [goldne]3 Frucht.
Keine Reben blühn, der Lüfte Sänger,
Wie die Schiffe, meiden diese Bucht.

Steine fügt die Kunst nicht zu Gebäuden,
Zelte spannt des Scythen Armuth sich;
Unter starren Felsen, rauhen [Wäldern]4
Ist das Leben einsam, schauerlich!
[»Allhier soll,«]5 so ist ja doch ergangen
An den Flehenden der [heil'ge]6 Spruch:
[»Soll die Bogenspannerin Diana
Lösen deinen und der Väter Fluch.«]7

Orestes a Tàurida
Language: Catalan (Català)  after the German (Deutsch)
És aquesta la Tàurida, on Pythia
prometé calmar la còlera de les Eumènides?
Ai de mi! Les germanes dels cabells llargs
em segueixen des de la terra dels grecs.
Illa agresta, no anuncies cap bona astrugància;
enlloc broten els dolços fruits de Ceres;
la vinya no floreix, els cantaires de l’aire,
com els vaixells, defugen aquesta badia.

L’art no afegeix pedres per construir,
damunt la misèria els escites paren les tendes;
enmig de roques ertes, boscos salvatges,
la vida és solitària, espantosa!
“I aquí” així ha estat anunciat
al suplicant per l’oracle sagrat,
“una alta sacerdotessa de Diana,
anul•larà la maledicció del meu pare i la meva.”

Note: this is a translation of Schubert's sung text.
