Wann es den Wald durchbricht, so sind es Bäche;
und unten in der Tiefe sind es Meere,
die brausen groß hinaus.
Aber hier auf den Höhen sind es Tränen.
Hier bricht's hervor.

Ich möcht' mein Haupt hinhalten wie die Berge.
Ich möchte weinen wie die Berge weinen.

Sitting upon my heights

Sitting upon my heights, I hear it trickling.
When it bursts through the forest, it is streams;
and down in the depths it is seas
that roar massively outward.
But here upon the heights it is tears.
Here it breaks forth.

I would like to offer my head like the mountains.
I would like to weep as the mountains weep.
