Sie saß am Rebenfenster
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Sie saß am Rebenfenster
Im stillen Kämmerlein,
Und schaute hinaus in den Frühling
Und der Frühling schaute hinein.
Und wer den Weg gegangen,
Blieb stille grüßend stehn,
Von allen den Blumen des Frühlings
Auch die schönste Rose zu seh'n.
Die schickte freundlich lächelnd
Ein frühlingsduftend Wort;
Ein sehnendes Herz zog weiter
Und die Rose blühete fort.

She sat at the grapevine‑window
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
She sat at the grapevine-window
In the quiet chamber,
And looked out into spring
And spring looked in.
And whoever walked that way
Stopped with a quiet greeting
In order to see of all the flowers of spring,
The loveliest rose as well.
She sent forth, smiling in a friendly manner,
A spring-scented word;
A yearning heart travelled onward
And the rose continued to bloom.
