Ved gamle borg i kolde mose stod tavs i sorg den røde rose. Dem lumske orm vil rosen nage. O hårde storm! Den må forsage. Nys rød og sund i solens bade åd fæle mund de fine blade. Ved dunkle lund bespændt i nøden, i hårde stund den venter døden. Bort fra min kind er rosen veget, mit sunkne sind til Gud er steget! O, dødens hånd, du søde, kolde! riv bort de bånd, som her mig holde.
