Siehe wie die Mondesstrahlen
Busch und Flur in Silber mahlen!
Wie das Bächlein rollt und flimmt!
Strahlen regnen, Funken schmettern
Von den sanftgeregten Blättern,
Und die Thauflur glänzt und glimmt.
Glänzend erdämmern der Berge Gipfel,
Glänzend der Pappeln wogende Wipfel.

Durch die [glanzberauschten]1 Räume
Flüstern Stimmen, gaukeln Träume
Sprechen mir vertraulich zu.
Seligkeit, die mich gemahnet,
Höchste Lust, die süß mich schwanet,
Sprich, wo blühst, wo zeitigst du?
Sprenge die Brust nicht mächtiges [Dehnen]2;
Löschet die Wehmuth, labende Thränen.

Wie, ach wie der Qual genesen?
Wo, ach wo ein liebend Wesen,
Das die süßen Qualen stillt?
Eins ins andre gar versunken,
Gar verloren, gar ertrunken,
Bis sich jede Oede füllt -
Solches, ach, wähn' ich, kühlte das Sehnen;
Löschte die Wehmuth mit köstlichen Thränen.

Eine weiß ich, ach nur Eine,
Dich nur weiß ich, dich o Reine,
Die des Herzens Wehmuth meint.
Dich umringend, von dir umrungen,
Dich umschlingend, von dir umschlungen,
Gar in Eins mit dir geeint - -
Schon', ach schone den Wonneversunknen.
Himmel und Erde verschwinden dem Trunknen.

Mira com els raigs de la lluna
pinten el matossar i la prada color d'argent!
Com el petit rierol corre i pampallugueja!
De les fulles que suaument es belluguen
plouen raigs de llum, guspires es llancen amb força
i els camps plens de rosada brillen i centellegen.
Resplendents, s'enfosqueixen els cims de les muntanyes,
resplendents, es gronxen les capçades dels pollancres.

A través dels espais inebriats de brillantor
veus xiuxiuejants, somnis volanders,
em parlen íntimament.
Una benaurança que m'exhorta,
una extrema voluptat que dolçament entreveig,
em diuen: on floreixes tu, on madures?
Desigs poderosos, no feu esclatar el meu cor!
Llàgrimes refrescants, extingiu la meva tristesa!

Ai, com, com es pot guarir la pena?
Ai, on, on trobar un ésser benèvol
que alleugi les meves dolces penes?
Totalment immersos un dins l'altre,
completament perduts, completament embriacs,
fins que s'hagin omplert tots els erms --
Ai, un ésser semblant refredaria el meu desig,
extingiria la meva pena amb llàgrimes exquisides.
