Wind in Schlaf. Meine Hand
Lässt eine blutrote Blüte
Zerflattern im Sonnenbrand.

Ich habe schon viele Blüten
Blühn und zerflattern sehn;
Die Freuden und Wehen kommen und gehn,
Man kann sie nicht behüten.

Ich habe auch verstreuet
Mein Herzblut in das Leben hin;
Ich weiß nicht, ob's mich reuet,
Ich weiß nur, daß ich müde bin.

Love‑weary

In the tangled branches the weary
Wind rocks itself to sleep. My hand
Lets a blood-red blossom
Flutter apart in the burning sun.

I have already seen many
Blossoms bloom and flutter apart;
Joys and sorrows come and go,
One cannot protect them.

I have also squandered 
My heart's blood into my life;
I do not know if I regret it,
I only know that I am weary.
