Bergnacht mit deinem Waldeszauber
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG

Das wogt so duftig und so sacht;
Da dunkelt's -- nur ein Wolkenschatten --
Und wieder volle, klare Nacht!

Die Funken auf dem Almherd knistern,
Fern klingt der Herden Nachtgeläut;

Mountain night with your forest magic
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Mountain night with your forest magic,
Moonlit night with your full radiance!
There is soughing in the forest, there is soughing in the foliage,
The stalks bloom about the rocks.

Quietly the wind brushes the alpine meadows,
So scented and so gentle is the surging;
It darkens -- only the shadow of a cloud --
And then again full, clear night!

The sparks crackle upon the alpine stove,
Far away the nighttime tolling of the cowbells sounds;
The maidens sing, others whisper
Of love and of beautiful times.

I do not hear their whispering and singing,
I lie outdoors in the glory of the stars --
It seemed to me as if I heard the song of the elves
Sounding in the heath-night!
