Ich grüsse die Sonne, die dort versinkt,
ich grüsse des Meeres schweigende Fluten, 
das durstig die Gluten trinkt,
die lautlos an seinem Herzen verbluten.

Ich grüsse die Ebene, wie liegt sie still,
des Abends geheimnissvoll dämmernde Weite, 
durch die ich, der ich nach Hause will,
nun schneller und immer schneller schreite!

Wie ist die Brust von Glück geschwellt,
mich umgaukelt die luftige Schaar meiner Lieder, 
und ich grüsse die Welt, diese herrliche Welt!
Ich grüsse sie, morgen seh' ich sie wieder!

Een  groet aan het zonlicht, dat ginds verzinkt,
Een groet aan de zee, haar zwijgende deinen,
Dat dorstig de stralen drinkt
Die klankloos in haar gewiegel verdwijnen.

Ik groet ook de vlakte zeer - wat ligt zij stil! -, 
De avond, zijn wijdheid vol raadsel en vrede,
Waardoor ik, die nu naar huis toe wil,
Zet snelle en steeds maar snell’re schreden.

Hoe is mijn hart in roes gebracht,
Mij omdartelt mijn zangrepertoire, vrij van zorgen, 
En ik groet al dit schoons, deze wereld vol pracht!
Ik groet haar nu, weerzien zal ik haar morgen!
