Schönes Heute
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Morgen - was wird morgen sein?
Trauer, Sorge, wenig Freude,
Schweres Haupt, vergoßner Wein -
Du sollst leben, schönes Heute!
Ob die Zeit im schnellen Flug
Wandelt ihren ewigen Reigen,
Dieses Bechers voller Zug
Ist unwandelbar mein eigen.
Meiner losen Jugend Brand
Lodert hoch in diesen Tagen.
Tod, da hast du meine Hand,
Willst du mich zu zwingen wagen?

Beautiful today
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Tomorrow -- what shall be tomorrow?
Sorrow, anxiety, little joy,
Heavy head, spilled wine -
You shall live, beautiful today!
Though the time, in rapid flight,
May pace out its eternal roundelay,
The full draught of this goblet
Is immutably my own.
The flame of my wanton youth
Blazes brightly in these days.
Death, here you have my hand,
Do you dare to try to compel me?
