Gläns över sjö och strand
Language: Swedish (Svenska)
Our translations:  FRE GER
Gläns över sjö och strand,
stjärna ur fjärran,
du, som i Österland,
tändes av Herran!1
Barnen och herdarne
följa dig gärna,
[Betlehems]2 stjärna.

Natt över Judaland,
natt över Sion.
Borta vid västerrand
slocknar Orion.
Herden, som sover trött,
[ute å fjället]3,
barnet, som slumrar sött
[inne i tjället,]3
vakna vid underbar
korus av röster,
skåda en härligt klar
stjärna i öster,
gånga från lamm och hem,
sökande Eden,
stjärnan från Betlehem
visar dem leden
[fram genom hindrande
jordiska fängsel
hän till det glindrande
lustgårdens stängsel.
Armar där sträckas dem,
läppar där viska,
viska och räckas dem
ljuva och friska:]3
»Stjärnan från Betlehem
leder ej bort, men hem.«
Barnen och herdarne
följa dig gärna,
strålande stjärna.

Glänzt über Meer und Strand
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Swedish (Svenska)
Glänzt über Meer und Strand,
Stern aus den Fernen,
du, der im Morgenland
aufging dem Herren!
Kinder und Hirten, fromm,
folgen dir gerne,
Stern aller Sterne.

Nacht über Judas Land,
Nacht über Zion.
Westlich am Himmel schwand
fern der Orion.
Hirten, die müd im Feld
ruhn bei den Schafen,
Kindlein, das süß im Zelt
lächelt im Schlafe:
Wacht auf, so wunderbar
klingt’s nah und ferne,
seht ihn, so schön und klar,
den Stern der Sterne!
Lasst Lamm und Haus zurück,
Heil zu erstreben,
Bethlehems Stern im Blick
wird es euch geben.
