gens qui devriez savoir creuser et voir
aussi bien pour le moins aussi bien que les cigales
Eh quoi! vous savez boire et ne savez plus
pisser utilement comme les cigales
le jour de gloire sera celui où vous saurez
creuser pour bien sortir au soleil
creusez voyez buvez pissez comme les cigales
gens du midi il faut creuser voir boire pisser
aussi bien que les cigales pour chanter comme elles

Ihr habt also nicht die Zikaden beobachtet,
Da ihr nicht wisst wie man gräbt 
Da ihr nichts erhellen oder sehen könnt
Da euch also etwas fehlt, um so gut sehen zu können wie die Zikaden
Aber ihr wisst noch wie man trinkt wie die Zikaden
O Volk des Südens, Volk der Sonne,
Volk das wissen sollte, wie man gräbt
Und so gut sieht, mindestens so gut, wie die Zikaden.
Und was! Ihr wisst wie man trinkt und könnt nicht mehr 
richtig pissen wie die Zikaden
Der Tag des Ruhmes wird der sein, an dem ihr wieder wisst, wie man gräbt
um hinaus in die Sonne zu gelangen.
Grabt, schaut, trinkt, pisst wie die Zikaden,
Volk des Südens, es ist nötig zu graben, sehen, trinken, pissen so 
wie die Zikaden, um zu singen wie sie:
