by Aleksei Konstantinovich Tolstoy, Count (1817 - 1875)

V glubokom ushchel'e
Language: Russian (Русский)
V glubokom ushchel'e,
Kak gnezda strizhej,
Po zheltym obryvam temnejut pustynnye kel'i,
No rechi ne slyshno nich'ej;
Vse tikho, poka ne sberetsja k sluzhen'ju
Otshel'nikov roj;
I vtorit togda ikh obrjadnomu pen'ju
Odin otgolosok glukhoj.
A tam, nad krajami doliny,
Bezljudnoj pustyni carit torzhestvo,
I pal'my ne vidno nigde ni jedinoj,
Vse pusto krugom i mertvo.
Kak zhgucheje bremja,
Tak nebo ustaluju zemlju gnetet,
I kazhetsja, budto by vremja
Svoj medlennyj zvuchno svershajet nad neju polet.
Poroj otdalennoje slyshno rychan'e
Golodnogo l'va;
I snova nastupit molchan'e,
I snova shumit lish' sukhaja trava,
Kogda iz-pod kamnej zmeja vypolzaja
Blesnet cheshujej;
Krylami treshcha, sarancha polevaja
Vzletit inogda. Il' sluchitsja poroj,
Pustynja prosnetsja ot dikogo klika,
Posypjatsja kamni, i tam, v vyshine,
Drozha i kolebljas', mokhnataja pika
Pokazhetsja v nebe. Na legkom kone
Pojavitsja vsadnik; nad samym ovragom
Sderzhav skakuna zapenennogo let,
Projedet on mimo obiteli shagom
Da inokam sverkhu prokljat'e poshlet.
I snova vse stikhnet. Lish' v polden' orlicy
Na kryl'jakh nedvizhnykh parjat,
Da vecherom zvezdy gorjat,
I skuchnoju tjanutsja dlinnye dni verenicej.
