Da die Welt zur Ruh' gegangen,
Wacht mit Sternen mein Verlangen;
In der Kühle muß ich lauschen,
Wie die Wellen unten rauschen.

"Fernher mich die Wellen tragen,
Die ans Land so traurig schlagen,
Unter deines Fensters Gitter,
Fraue, kennst du noch den Ritter?"

Ist's doch, als ob seltsam' Stimmen
Durch die lauen Lüfte schwimmen;
Wieder hat's der Wind genommen -
Ach, mein Herz ist so beklommen!

"Drüben liegt dein Schloß verfallen,
Klagend in den öden Hallen
Aus dem Grund der Wald mich grüßte -
's war, als ob ich sterben müßte."

Alte Klänge blühend schreiten!
Wie aus lang versunknen Zeiten
Will mich Wehmut noch bescheinen,
Und ich möcht' von Herzen weinen.

"Überm Walde blitzt's [vom weiten]¹,
Wo um Christi Grab sie streiten;
Dorthin will mein Schiff ich wenden,
Da wird alles, alles enden!"

Geht ein Schiff, ein Mann stand [drinne]²,
Falsche Nacht, verwirrst die Sinne,
Welt Ade! Gott woll' bewahren,
Die noch irr im Dunkeln fahren.

Ahora que el mundo se ha ido a descansar,
mi deseo vela con las estrellas;
en el frío de la noche me veo obligada a escuchar
el rumor de las olas allá abajo.

«De lejos me traen las olas
que rompen tristemente en tierra,
bajo la reja de tu ventana.
Mujer, ¿reconoces aún al caballero?»

Es como si extrañas voces
flotaran en el aire tibio;
de nuevo el viento se las lleva…
¡Ay, cómo se angustia mi corazón…!

«Allá en lo alto yace tu castillo en ruinas.
Lamentándose en los solitarios salones,
desde lo profundo del bosque me saludó…
Era como si hubiera llegado mi hora».

¡Antiguos sonidos florecen nuevamente!
Como en tiempos ya hace mucho desaparecidos,
la nostalgia aún me invade
y querría llorar desde lo profundo del corazón.

«Sobre los bosques hay destellos lejanos,
allí donde pelean por la tumba de Cristo.
¡Hacia allí dirigiré mi nave,
allí todo, todo terminará!»

Allá va una nave, hay un hombre a bordo.
¡Falsa noche, que confundes los sentidos!
¡Adiós, mundo! Dios guarde
a quienes aún vagan en la oscuridad.
