Nei sjaa, kor det blaaner her! No maa me roe oss, Kyra! No vil eg eta meg mett; her vil eg vera til Kvelds! Aa nam-nam, so søtt og godt! Ja naar det slik seg lagar! -- Og allestad blaatt i blaatt! Her hev eg for mange Dagar. Slik Smak so frisk og so fin! Men kom no den [Bjørnen]2 stor! - Her fekk bli Rom aat oss baae. Eg torde kje seia eit Ord til slik ein [rysjeleg]3 Vaae. Eg sa berre: "ver so god! No maa du kje vera bljug! Eg læt deg so vel i Ro; tak for deg etter din Hug." Men var det den Reven [raud]4, so skuld' han faa smaka Staven; eg skulde banke han [daud]5, um so han var Bror til Paven. Slikt skarve, harmelegt Sleng!

Look, look at all these blueberries! Cows, we're going to take a rest! And they're so fat and ripe! The ground is thick with them! I've never seen the like! The hillsides have their advantages! I'm going to eat my fill, and spend the rest of the day here. [... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...] But what if a bear comes visiting? Then I must keep my distance I wouldn't dare say a word to such a scary creature. I'd say: please help yourself, don't be shy. I'll leave you in peace, just go when you've had enough. But if the visitor was a fox, well then he'll get a taste of my staff! I'd beat him to a pulp, even if he was the Pope's brother! What a miserable wretch of a scoundrel! He takes what he pleases of lamb and kid! No matter how graceful he walks, he has no shame or regret! And if it was a wolf, mean and hungry as the bailiff! I'd lift my birch club, and give him a good thump on the snout! Mother's sheep and lambs he tears limb from limb, and comes back for more! I'm telling him straight: if he comes here, let him watch out! But,.. if it was that nice boy from the farm over there, Skare-brotet. He would also get something on his mouth, but something else indeed ... What nonsense! what am I thinking of! It's getting late! I must look after the herd. Bessie there is already dreaming of the salt lick.
