sometimes misattributed to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832) and by Marianne von Willemer (1784 - 1860)

Sag, du hast wohl viel gedichtet
Language: German (Deutsch)
Suleika
Sag, du hast wohl viel gedichtet,
Hin und her dein Lied gerichtet,
Schöne Schrift von deiner Hand,
Prachtgebunden, goldgerändet,
Bis auf Punkt und Strich vollendet,
Zierlich lockend, manchen Band?
Stets, wo du sie hingewendet,
War's gewiß ein Liebespfand?

Hatem
Ja, von mächtig holden Blicken,
Wie von lächelndem Entzücken
Und von Zähnen blendend klar,
Wimpern-Pfeilen, Locken-Schlangen,
Hals und Busen reizumhangen,
Tausendfältige Gefahr!
Denke nun, wie von so langem
Prophezeit Suleika war.
