Vu le soin ménager dont travaillé je...
Language: French (Français)
Our translations:  ENG

Ou, pour le dire mieux, en pleurant je les chante ;

M. Delannoy sets stanzas 2-4

In view of the housework I have to do
Language: English  after the French (Français)
In view of the housework I have to do,
In view of the persistent worry that endlessly torments me,
And in view of so many regrets over which I lament,
You often marvel at how I can chant.

I don’t sing, Magny, I weep over my troubles,
Or, to put it better, while weeping I chant them;
So well that in chanting them, I often enchant them:
That is why, Magny, I chant day and night.

Thus chants the worker while doing his work,
Thus the laborer doing his labor,
Thus the pilgrim missing his home,

Thus the adventurer while dreaming of his lady,
Thus the mariner while pulling at the oar,
Thus the prisoner cursing his prison.
