Min majdags brud,
min majdags brud!
nu springer ranunkelens blomster ud,
de nejer for solen i gyldenskrud,
mens majgræsset svinger sin landse.
Og blomsterblus tændes i tusental
og lyser i jorderigs dansesal,
hvor snart også du skal danse.

Min majdags brud,
min majdags brud !
jeg selv er ranunklen, som nu springer ud,
nu eier jeg lidelsens adelsskrud
på vei gjennem livets lande.
Af alle de sorgens tårer, som randt,
sprang sangenes blomster, jeg knælende bandt
omkring din velsignede pande.

ma fiancée de mai !
Voici que les fleurs des renoncules s'épanouissent,
elles font la révérence au soleil dans leur parure dorée,
tandis que l'herbe de mai agite sa lance.
Et des feux de fleurs s'allument par milliers
et illuminent la salle de bal de la terre,
où bientôt toi aussi tu danseras.

Ma fiancée de mai,
ma fiancée de mai !
Moi-même, je suis la renoncule qui maintenant s'épanouit,
maintenant je porte la noble parure de la souffrance
sur mon chemin à travers les terres de la vie.
De toutes les larmes de douleur qui ont coulé
ont jailli les fleurs des chants, et agenouillé,
je les ai nouées autour de ton front béni.
