Ne l'éveille pas à l'aurore
quand elle dort d'un sommeil si profond
Sa joue se colore au matin
et le soleil l'éclaire d'un rayon
Sa tête repose brulante
et son sommeil profond est accablant
Sur l'épaule ses cheveux noirs
en se déroulant tombent en tresses pendantes
Hier auprès de sa fenêtre
elle a rêvé tard dans la nuit;
peut-être suivait elle au ciel
la lune claire et les nuages blancs
Mais la lune claire et brillante
augmentait la pâleur de son visage
Et dans son coeur la voix troublante
du rossignol éveillait la douleur.
C'est pourqoui le matin colore d'un feu
sa joue et tremble sur son sein.
Ne l'éveille pas à l'aurore
quand elle dort d'un sommeil si profond enfin!

als ze slaapt een diepe slaap
Haar wang kleurt door de morgen
En de zon verlicht haar wang met een straal
Haar hoofd rust gloeiend
en haar diepe slaap is overweldigend
Op haar schouder haar zwarte haren
zich ontrollend vallen in hangende vlechten
Gisteren, nabij haar venster
heeft ze laat in de nacht gedroomd;
misschien volgde ze aan de hemel
de heldere maan en de witte wolken
Maar de heldere en schitterende maan
versterkte de bleekte op haar gezicht
En in haar hart wekte de getroebleerde stem
van de nachtegaal haar verdriet.
Dat is waarom de morgen als een vuur
Haar wangen kleurt en trilt op haar borst.
Wek haar niet wanneer ze slaapt
Met zo een diepe slaap. Eindelijk!
