Der Blümlein Antwort
Language: German (Deutsch)
In unsers Vaters Garten,
Da war's noch gestern grün,
Da sah ich noch so mancherlei,
So schöne Blumen blühn.
Und heut' ist Alles anders,
Und heut' ist Alles todt:
Wo seid ihr hin, ihr Blümelein,
Ihr Blümlein gelb und roth?
"O liebes Kind, wir schlafen
Nach Gottes Willen hier,
Bis er uns seinen Frühling schickt,
Und dann erwachen wir.
Ja, deine Blümlein schlafen:
So wirst auch schlafen du,
Bis dich erweckt ein Frühlingstag
Aus deiner langen Ruh.
Und wenn du dann erwachest,
O möchtest du dann sein
So heiter und so frühlingsfroh
Wie deine Blümelein!"

The little flowers' answer
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
In our father's garden
It was still green yesterday,
We still saw so many different kinds of
Beautiful flowers blooming.
And today everything is different,
And today everything is dead:
Where did you go, you little flowers,
You little flowers yellow and red?
"Oh dear child, we are sleeping here
According to God's will,
Until He sends us His springtime,
And then we shall awaken.
Yes, your flowers are sleeping:
Thus you shall also sleep,
Until a springtime day wakens you
From your long rest.
And when you then awaken,
Oh, may you then be
As merry and as happy in spring
As your little flowers are!"
