Why did he choose to come to my door
Language: English  after the Bangla (Bengali)
Why did he choose to come to my door,
the wandering youth, when the day dawned?
As I come in and out I pass by him every time,
and my eyes are caught by his face.
I know not if I should speak to him or keep silent.
Why did he choose to come to my door?

The cloudy nights in July are dark;
the sky is soft blue in the autumn;
the spring days are restless with the south wind.
He weaves his songs
with fresh tunes every time.
I turn from my work
and my eyes fill with the mist.
Why did he choose to come to my door?

Perché, allo spuntar del giorno
Language: Italian (Italiano)  after the English
Perché, allo spuntar del giorno
Venne il giovine errabondo alla mia porta?
Ogni volta che entro e esco gli passo daccanto
E i miei occhi lo fissano in volto...
Non so se devo parlargli o tacere...
Oh! Perché venne alla mia porta?

Le notti nuvolose di luglio sono oscure...
Il cielo d'autunno è soavemente azzurro
I giorni primaverili son turbati dai venti del sud...
Egli canta le sue canzoni
Con nuove melodie ogni volta.
Io lascio di lavorare
E i miei occhi s'empiono di lacrime.
Oh! Perché venne alla mia porta? Perché?
