Die Linde
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
O Lindenbaum, welch schöner Traum
Ist dir beschert vor allen:
Du blühst, wenn längst jedwedem Baum
Die Blüten sind entfallen.

Wenn glühend brennt der Sonne Strahl,
Und schon die Früchte schwellen,
Da sendest du [hinab in's]1 Thal
[Weithin der Düfte]2 Wellen.

O [könnt' auch ich, wenn mir verweht
Der Jugendtraum im]3 Winde,
[Noch blühen fort im Leben spät]4
Wie du, süßduftge Linde!

The linden tree
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Oh linden tree, what a lovely dream
Has been granted to you before all others:
You bloom when from all other trees
The blossoms have long fallen.

When the sun's beams burn glowingly
And the fruits are already swelling,
Then you send [down into the]1 valley
[Far and wide the]2 waves of scent.

Oh, [could I, too, when the dream]3 of youth
Has [dissipated in the wind for me]4,
[Still blossom on late in life]5,
Like you, sweet-scented linden tree!
