Zu wandeln stets nach Gottes Willen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Zu wandeln stets nach Gottes Willen
Und unter seinem Angesicht,
Und treulich sein Gesetz erfüllen,
War dir, Maria! erste Pflicht.
Er sandte Kummer oder Freude,
So war dein Herz nur Ihm geweiht;
Du giengest nie von seiner Seite
Und priesest Ihn voll Dankbarkeit.
O hilf uns auch so gläubig leben,
Uns unserm Vater innig weih'n;
Hilf uns, so fromm, so gottergeben,
So dankbar gegen Ihn zu seyn;
Daß wir in heitern Glückestagen
Nie weg von seinen Wegen geh'n;
Und in dem Unglück ohne Zagen
Auf Ihn, als unsern Vater, seh'n.

To live always according to God's will
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
To live always according to God's will
And in the light of His countenance,
And to obey His commandments faithfully,
Was to thee, Mary! the most important duty.
Whether He sent tribulation or joy,
Thy heart was dedicated to Him alone;
Thou never left His side
And praised Him, full of gratitude.
Oh help us that we might also live so devoutly,
To consecrate ourselves fervently to our Father;
Help us to be so pious, so meek,
So grateful to Him;
That in merry days of good fortune
We never depart from His ways,
And in adversity without hesitation
Keep our eyes fixed on Him as our Father.
