Hinsegelnd aller Pilger Sehnsucht weckt
Und blaß und silbern in den Tag verrinnt -

Und wie ein Lied am heißen Straßenrand
Fremdtönig klingt mit wunderlichem Reim
Und dir das Herz entführt weit über Land -

So weht mein Leben flüchtig durch die Zeit,
Ist bald vertönt und mündet doch geheim

i després, exhausta i bella,  s’esvaeix en el gran mar—

Com un núvol, que navegant en un oreig suau,
desperta el deler de tots els pelegrins,
i després, pàl·lid i argentat, s’escola en el dia—

I com una cançó que, al tòrrid marge de la carretera, 
ressona amb estranys tons amb una rima meravellosa
i se t’emporta el cor lluny damunt la terra–

Així la meva vida passa fugissera pel temps,
