Der Kreuzzug
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  CAT DUT ENG FRE
Ein Münich steht in [seiner]1 Zell'
Am Fenstergitter grau,
Viel Rittersleut' in Waffen hell,
[Die reiten durch]2 die Au'.

Sie singen Lieder frommer Art
[In schönem, ernstem]3 Chor,
Inmitten fliegt, von Seide zart,
Die Kreuzesfahn' empor.

Sie steigen [an dem]4 Seegestad'
[Das hohe]5 Schiff hinan.
[Es]6 läuft hinweg auf [grünen]7 Pfad,
Ist bald nur wie ein Schwan.

Der Münich steht am Fenster noch,
Schaut ihnen nach hinaus:
»Ich bin, wie ihr, ein Pilger doch
Und bleib' ich gleich zu Haus'.

Des Lebens Fahrt durch Wellentrug
Und heißen Wüstensand,
[Es]8 ist ja auch ein Kreuzes-Zug
In das gelobte Land.«

De kruistocht
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
Een monnik staart vanuit zijn cel
Door 't grauwe tralieraam.
Veel riddervolk met wapens hel,
Dat rijdt daar af en aan.

Zij zingen lied'ren, vroom en vrij,
- Een ernstig koorbetoog, -
In 't midden waait, van zachte zij,
De kruisbanier omhoog.

Hij ziet hen aan de lage ree
Het hoge schip in gaan.
Dan vaart het weg op groene zee,
Lijkt weldra slechts een zwaan.

De monnik staat aan 't venster nog,
Kijkt hen al peinzend na:
"Ik ben, als gij, een pelgrim toch,
Al blijf ik waar ik sta.

De levenstocht langs klip en scheer,
Door brandend woestijnzand,
Het is een kruistocht evenzeer
Naar het beloofde land."
