Greeting from afar
Language: English  after the Moravian (Moravština)
Shed thy silvry beams, bright star, on my pathway yonder, That my love may, from afar, see wher'e'r I wander: Tho' yon lofty heights I scale, tho' I linger in the dale, She will weep and moan, sweet maiden, heart with grief and sorrow laden. From the bough an apple fell, down the hill came leaping; Till, at last, it reach'd the dell, where my love lay sleeping. And it woke the sleeping maid, as in whispers soft, it said: "Unto God reveal, sweet maiden, thy sad heart with grief and sorrow laden!["]
From the Simrock edition of Dvořák's op. 38.
