„Ach, Vater, sprich, wie fang ich's an, Daß ich die Spatzen fangen kann, Die Spatzen?” Der Vater spricht: „So streu, mein Hans, Hübsch Salz den Spatzen auf den Schwanz, Den Spatzen!” Drauf nimmer er eine Handvoll Salz Und lauert mit gestrecktem Hals Auf Spatzen. Und als der erste sich gesetzt, Schleicht er heran: „Dich krieg ich jetzt, Dich Spatzen!” Das Spätzlein aber flog husch, husch, Hinweg zum nächsten Lindenbusch. Ach, Spatzen! „Sie halten, Vater, ja nicht still, Wenn ich das Salz hinstreuen will -- Die Spatzen!” „So laß die Spatzen, Hans, in Ruh, Sie sind halt klüger doch als du, Die Spatzen.”
