Wenn zwei von Herzen lieb sich haben
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Wenn zwei von Herzen lieb sich haben,
Bedürfen sie der Welt nicht mehr!

Wenn zwei vereint durchs Leben wandern,
Dann wandert sichs durchs Leben schön,
Denn jeder sorgt nur, daß den andern
Der Freude reichste Krone krön'.
Die Liebe giebt mit reichen Gaben,
Macht alle Schmerzen minder schwer.
Wenn zwei von Herzen lieb sich haben,
Bedürfen sie der Welt nicht mehr!

Den Kranz von Sternen giebt die Ehre!
Wohl hat der Stern ein funkelnd' Licht,
Doch ach, der Sternenkranz, der hehre,
O, glaub' es, er erwärmt dich nicht!
Mit warmen Lebensflammen laben
Wird nimmer dich der Kranz der Ehr'! --
Wenn zwei von Herzen lieb sich haben,
Bedürfen sie der Welt nicht mehr!

When two love each other with all their hearts
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
How the heart chases after a thousand things
When it is not animated by the spirit of love,
And may it win laurels upon laurels,
The loveliest wreath is eternally missing!
[The heart] wishes to refresh itself at the chalice of joy,
But every goblet is soon empty. --
When two love each other with all their hearts,
They no longer have need of the world!

When two walk through life united,
Then their walk through life is pleasant,
For each only sees to it that the other
Is crowned by the richest crown of joy.
Loves gives rich gifts,
Makes every pain less heavy.
When two love each other with all their hearts,
They no longer have need of the world!

Honour bestows the wreath of stars!
To be sure, every star has a sparkling light,
But ah, the wreath of stars, the lofty one,
Oh, believe it, it does not warm you!
With warm flames of life the wreath of honour
Shall never refresh you! --
When two love each other with all their hearts,
They no longer have need of the world!
