by (Karl) Wilhelm Osterwald (1820 - 1887)

Die Sterne flimmern und prangen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Die Sterne flimmern und prangen
   Selig in stiller Nacht,
Aber in Schmerzen und Bangen
   Mein Herz noch immer wacht.

Am Monde vorübergleiten
   Die Wolken im luftigen Lauf,
Die alten, seligen Zeiten
   Steigen wie Geister herauf.

Sie ziehen vorüber und neigen
   Wehmüthig das Haupt mir zu,
Schweig stille, mein Herz, o schweige,
Lasse die Todten in Ruh! -

Ein Stern fällt zitternd und schnelle
   Herab ins dunkle Moor,
Aber die Nacht bleibt helle
Und prangt so schön wie zuvor.
