   Leise, leise fällt der Regen . 

   Heimlich singt es in den Gräsern, 
klingt es in den welken Blättern
wie ein Klirren feiner Gläser . .

   Schimmernd hängen helle Perlen
in den weissen Spinneweben,
bis sie silbern sich verspritzen. 

   Durch die Zweige flirrt es, sirrt es . .

   Kleine reine Bäche rinnen,
führen windverwehte Blätter
aus verblühten Blumenbeeten
mit sich auf die Pilgerreise
in den menschenleeren Wegen . .

   Weiches Rieseln in den Steinen . .

   Leise fällt der Regen, leise . .

   Klingt im Wind ein Mädchenweinen?

Rain

   Quietly, quietly the rain falls . . 

   Secretly it sings in the grasses,
it rings in the wilted leaves
like the clinking of delicate glasses . .

   Bright pearls hang shimmering
in the white spiderwebs,
until they splash apart in a flash of silver.

  Through the branches it glints, it buzzes . .

   Clear little brooks run,
carrying leaves, blown by the wind,
from wilted flowerbeds
along on its pilgrimage
upon the pathways empty of people . .

   A soft trickling among the stones . . 

   Quietly the rain falls, quietly . . 

   Is the weeping of a maiden sounding in the breeze?
