Wieviel Sonnenstrahlen fielen goldenschwer,
fielen feurig glühend in des ew'ge Meer!
Und die Woge sog sie tief in sich hinab,
und die Woge ward ihr wild lebendig Grab.
Nur in stiller Nächte heilger Feierstund'
sprühen diese Strahlen aus des Meeres Grund.
Leuchtend roll'n die Wogen durch die dunkle Nacht
wunderbar durchglüht sie funkensprüh'nde Pracht.

Quants raigs de sol han caigut feixucs com d’or,
han caigut roents com el foc en el mar etern!
I les ones els han xuclat cap dins a la fondària!
I les ones han estat llur furient tomba vivent.
Tan sols a la sagrada hora solemne de les nits tranquil•les,
espurnegen aquests raigs des del fons del mar.
Lluminoses, fluctuen les ones a través de la nit fosca
fulgurant meravellosament per l’esplendor espurnejant.
