Keinen Vater, der das Kinn mir hebt
  Keine Mutter, die das Haar mir streichelt,
Keinen Freund, der mir am Herzen lebt,
  Keine Frau, die mir den Blick umschmeichelt!

Dennoch schicke ich ein Lachen aus,
  Und mit Lächeln wird es aufgenommen,
Alle Türen springen selbst heraus,
  Denn der Narr, der Narr ist angekommen.

Aber wenn sich dann der Schwarm verlor,
  Heb' ich meine Arme auf in Stöhnen;
Was ich nachts mir in die Kissen schwor,
  Ist ein Haß, heran geschwemmt von Tränen.

El bufó

Cap pare que m’aixequi el mentó,
cap mare que m’acaroni els cabells,
cap amic que visqui prop del meu cor,
cap dona que afalagui el meu esguard!

I malgrat tot, jo envio una rialla
que és rebuda amb un somriure,
s’obren totes les portes,
car el bufó, el bufó ha arribat.

Però quan la gentada s’ha dispersat,
aixeco gemegant els braços;
el que vaig jurar anit al coixí
és un odi arrossegat per les llàgrimes.
