Der Sommer
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Sanskrit (संस्कृतम्)
Available translation(s): ENG
Mit Sonnenglut und Mondesschimmer,
Mit Strömen, aufgeregt vom kühlen Bad;
Am Abend schön und mit gedämpftem Sehnen
Ist, Freundin, die Sommerzeit genaht.
Ein wasserkühles, flimmerndes Gewölbe,
Die Nächte glänzend mit des Mondes Schein,
Juwelen sind bereit und feuchter Sandel,
Dem Menschen ihren Liebesdienst zu weihn.
Im herrlich duftendem Gemache laben
Sich nun die Liebenden um Mitternacht
Am Weine, kräuselnd von der Gattin Odem,
Wenn Sang und Spiel die Sehnsucht angefacht.

Summer
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
With blazing heat and moonlight,
with pouring rain, excited by a refreshing bath,
in the evening, splendidly and with a subdued yearning,
Summer time has come to us, my friend.
The vault of heaven, water-cool and shimmering,
the nights, shining with moonlight,
jewels are at hand and sandalwood oil
to dedicate their service of love to woman and man.
In a chamber full of fragrance,
at midnight, the lovers are feasting on wine,
rippling by the spouse's breath,
when song and dalliance have inflamed the yearning.
