Aus der Schiffsbank mach ich meinen Pfühl.
Endlich wird die heiße Stirne kühl!
O wie suß erkaltet mir das Herz!
O wie weich verstummen Lust und Schmerz!
Über mir des Rohres schwarzer Rauch
Wiegt und biegt sich in des Windes Hauch.
Hüben hier und drüben wieder dort
Hält das Boot an manchem kleinen Port:
Bei der Schiffslaterne kargem Schein
Steigt ein Schatten aus und niemand ein.
Nur der Steurer noch, der wacht und steht!
Nur der Wind, der mir im Haare weht!
Schmerz und Lust erleiden sanften Tod.
Einen Schlummrer trägt das dunkle Boot.

Del banc del vaixell en faig el meu jaç.
Finalment es refresca el meu front ardent!
Oh, que dolçament es refreda el meu cor!
Oh, amb quina suavitat emmudeixen la joia i el dolor!
Al meu damunt, el fum negre de la xemeneia
es gronxa i es vincla en l’hàlit del vent.
D’un costat a l’altre el vaixell
s’atansa a molts petits ports:
a la feble llum del fanal del vaixell
desembarca una ombra i no puja ningú.
Tan sols el timoner resta dempeus i vigila!
Només hi ha el vent que m’esbulla els cabells!
El dolor i la joia experimenten una dolça mort.
L’ombrívol vaixell porta tot just un dorment.
