Allein
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Ich lausche still. --
Mein Herz springt mir heraus.

Ich lausche still . . .
Der Abend ist so lang.
In meinen Augenlidern zittert's feucht.

Alone
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Far away a maiden sings out into the night,
To the little child-like voice of the harmonica.
I listen silently. --
My heart leaps from my breast.
Oh God, how lonely is my great house,
And not a soul there! . . .

And every tone that creeps into the room
Makes the darknesses twice as frightening to me.
I listen silently . . .
The evening is so long.
There is a moist trembling in my eyelids.
Oh, only a dog that weaves about my knee!
