Es ist noch Tag auf der Terrasse.
Da fühle ich ein neues Freuen:
wenn ich jetzt in den Abend fasse,
ich könnte Gold in jede Gasse
aus meiner Stille niederstreuen.

Ich bin jetzt von der Welt so weit.
Mit ihrem späten Glanz verbräme
ich meine ernste Einsamkeit.

Mir ist, als ob mir irgendwer
jetzt leise meinen Namen nähme,
so zärtlich, dass ich mich nicht schäme
und weiß: ich brauche keinen mehr.

Ancora indugia il giorno

Ancora indugia il giorno sopra la terrazza.
E allegrezza mi prende con fresca emozione:
se in questo istante la sera abbracciassi,
senza rumore potrei rovesciare
cascate d'oro in ogni direzione.
 
Io sono ormai lontano dal mondo.
E con i suoi tardi splendori ora adorno
la mia ostinata vita solitaria.
 
E come se qualcuno a me sconosciuto,
rubasse, lieve, il mio stesso nome,
ma così teneramente, che non me ne vergogno
sapendo che non ne avrò mai più bisogno.
